Healthy for the whole family. These simple ingredients are full of nutrients and flavor that little ones love. Halloween can be stressful for parents trying to balance the sweets with more nutrient-dense foods. These easy toast recipes are one way to get your kids excited about the spooky festivities without including more sweets.

Fun! I’ve found that toddlers and kids are just as excited to get in on a creative activity as they are about sweets. Each toast idea has a fun spin on classic Halloween themes. This fun Halloween snack is sure to get your little one excited about helping in the kitchen!

Easy enough to include your kids in the process! These Halloween toddler friendly recipes have easy to follow steps and create a satisfying, spooky treat once completed! There are so many benefits to getting your kids helping in the kitchen as early as possible like:

  • Building a life skill that will carry through adulthood
  • Creating adventurous, less picky eaters
  • Developing fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills
  • Learning valuable skills like counting, language, and science
  • Creating lifelong memories and bonds through family meal prep
  • Building confidence and self-esteem

How Halloween Toast Fits Into Baby-Led Weaning

  • Ideal finger food: Lightly toasted bread is the perfect texture for babies. Cut each toast into 2-inch thick strips to make it easier for babies 6-9 months to hold. You’ll want to omit any hard, small ingredients like chocolate chips and raisins for babies under 12 months. Also be sure to squish any round ingredients like blueberries and take the fiberous parts out of the clementine. As always, make sure all ingredients are easily squished between your thumb and forefinger.
  • Encourages self-feeding. These Halloween toasts support development of self-feeding skills and autonomy at mealtime, as do all baby-led weaning safe foods.
  • Balanced nutrition. These baby-led weaning snacks use nutrient-dense spreads packed with brain-building fats and exposure to top allergens like peanuts and dairy. Whole-grain bread, fruit, veggies, and seeds provide a good source of fiber. The fruit and vegetables also provide a good source of vitamin C to help absorb iron from the nut and seed spreads and bread.

Best Tips for Halloween Toast

  • Lightly toast the bread to make it the perfect texture for baby-led weaning and toddlers
  • Each recipe is perfect for toddlers and kids of all ages and can be easily modified to be safe for baby-led weaning
  • Kids can help assemble and choose toppings for their own toasts to be involved in the process!
